Hostile Environments

A National Geographic exhibition

Earth is an exception in the universe, an extraordinary oasis in the midst of the cosmos. The only known world capable of sustaining life, our planet is not, however, entirely hospitable.

While some regions have always been inhospitable, others have become so over the past forty years. To survive in hostile environments, living organisms must adapt, innovate, and continuously push the limits of their resilience.

Many species, including our own, have no choice but to learn to adapt ever more rapidly to environmental upheavals.
